LOGISTICS

In 2016, we signed a contract with Tengizchevroil (TCO), to transport modular units through the Russian Inland Waterway System (RIWS) to Kazakhstan for installation in an industry ‘mega project’ in the Tengiz field – the sixth largest oil field in the world.

To support this ‘industry first’, we created a new operating division – P&OML Solutions – to focus our strategic diversification into additional segments of the energy industry. By understanding changing customer needs and applying a craftsman-like approach, our innovative spirit and our maritime expertise, we move with clients in the rapidly-changing marketplace to add value through distinct, more tailored services and solutions.

CASE STUDY: MCVS – AN ENERGY INDUSTRY GAMECHANGER

Our evolution into a solutions-driven business was tested and proven with the pioneering contract with TCO. We took an entirely different approach to this project where the major challenge was to ensure the transportation of these modules – safely, efficiently, and reliably – through the shallow and narrow waters of the Russian Inland Waterway System (RIWS).

P&OML took the view that the conventional tug and barge approach was not the right option for this type of project. Rather than focusing on what we were instructed to supply, we took a completely different view and created the Multi-Carrying Vessels (MCVs), a specialist vessel type, which could carry these modules through the waterways system, within a very short span of time – in practice reducing the time required by 40-50%.
