18 December 2016

P&O Maritime are delighted to be involved with and support the Atlantic Youth Trust initiative and Team Ireland Vendee Globe Challenge led by Enda O’Coineen as he sails the Kilcullen Voyager single-handed. Enda O’Coineen is the first ever Irishman to compete in sailing’s most difficult solo non-stop around the world race, the Vendee Globe.

The Atlantic Youth Trust, the all island youth development and cultural integration tall ship charity, is working with Ireland’s first entry into the Vendee Globe to create a primary schools maritime educational initiative. The Atlantic Youth Trust mission is to offer the young people of Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland the best possible youth development and educational opportunities at sea on a purpose built tall ship in Ireland http://www.atlanticyouthtrust.org/

The Atalntic Youth Trust along with the Vendee Globe Challenge are bringing school children, teachers, and parents on Enda O’Coineen’s fascinating journey around the world with video, position and written updateds from the race and learn about our Oceans along the way. Enda is now almost one month into what will hopefully be a three to four month race around the planet. P&O Maritime have joined the Marine Institute and others in supporting this initiative. On 6th November 2016, over 225,000 Race Tracker Maps and Lesson Plans were distrubuted accross Ireland highlighting P&O Maritime’s support. More details on the team Ireland and the Primary Schools initiative can be found http://teamireland.ie/

Members of P&O Maritime Ireland recently met Enda O’Coineen at Scoil Fhursa National School in Galway to launch P&O Maritime’s sponsorship of the Atlantic Youth Trust initiative and Team Ireland Vendee Globe Challenge. In January 2017 Enda will be recording a video clip live from the Kilcullen Voyager to promote P&O Maritime partnered with a Primary school initative.
